Gameplay Engineer (Player Systems)
Halifax, NS — hybrid
Working on the parts of Undercroft Tactics the player touches every second: movement, weapon handling, inventory weight, and the interaction layer that ties them together.
Responsibilities
- Own and extend player movement and weapon-handling code in Unreal Engine 5, in C++ with light Blueprint glue.
- Implement inventory, encumbrance and looting behaviour against a networked authoritative server.
- Work directly with the systems designer to prototype, tune and throw away mechanics quickly.
- Diagnose client-side prediction and reconciliation problems reported from live raids.
- Keep frame cost honest — profile your own work before it reaches the build.
Requirements
- Three or more years writing gameplay C++ in Unreal Engine, ideally on a shipped multiplayer title.
- A working understanding of replication, authority and client prediction, not just the API surface.
- Comfort profiling with Unreal Insights or an equivalent and acting on what you find.
- Willingness to have your prototype cut and to be the one who cuts someone else’s.
