Undercroft Tactics — The Long Tide brings a new raid map and a rebuilt stash

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA — Driftwood Signal today released The Long Tide, the fourth content update for its tactical extraction shooter Undercroft Tactics. The update is free to all owners of the game on Steam.

The Long Tide adds Kelpworks, a flooded processing plant on a tidal cycle that opens and closes extraction routes over the course of a raid. Alongside it, the update reworks stash management and insurance: insured items now return on a delay rather than instantly, insurance cannot be bought mid-raid, and stash space is earned through progression instead of purchased.

The studio also published its wipe schedule for the next twelve months. Wipes will occur every fourteen weeks on announced dates, with at least three weeks’ notice, ending the ad-hoc timing the game has used since launch.

Driftwood Signal adds Cerberus hardware-level anti-cheat to Undercroft Tactics

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA — Driftwood Signal today began rolling out Cerberus anti-cheat to Undercroft Tactics, adding hardware-level ban-evasion detection on top of the behavioural detection the game has used since launch. Cerberus is currently in closed beta with a small number of studios.

The change is aimed at a specific problem rather than cheating in general. Undercroft Tactics has a small competitive scene in which the same accounts are recognised week to week, and the studio found that players removed for cheating were frequently back within days on new accounts and new email addresses. Banning the account worked; it simply did not stop the person. The new layer uses hashed device signals and TPM 2.0 attestation to identify when a banned player is returning on fresh credentials, and to link accounts that belong to the same operator.

The anti-cheat component is a kernel-mode driver that loads when Undercroft Tactics launches and unloads when it exits; it does not run in the background at other times. It processes hashed identifiers and platform-integrity signals rather than personal information, and does not read documents, browsing history or unrelated applications. Every enforcement action remains appealable through player support, and appeals are reviewed by the studio, not by an automated system.

“Removing a cheater was never the difficult part for us,” said Elena Kowalski, Studio Head at Driftwood Signal. “The difficult part was that ten minutes later they were back with a new email address, and the same twenty people were losing the same raids to the same person. What we are trying to buy here is time and cost — making the return trip expensive enough to be worth abandoning.”

The studio is explicit that this is not a solved problem. Ban evasion is adversarial and will continue; some attempts will get through, and the measures announced today will need to change as the people they are aimed at change. Driftwood Signal intends to publish results honestly once there is enough data to say anything meaningful.

Tomas Lindqvist joins Driftwood Signal as Head of Production

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA — Driftwood Signal has appointed Tomas Lindqvist as its first Head of Production. He joins the studio’s leadership team and takes ownership of scheduling and release planning across both live and unannounced work.

Lindqvist spent the previous eight years in production roles on mid-size PC titles. At Driftwood Signal he will be responsible for the Undercroft Tactics update cadence and for the studio’s stated commitment to moving dates rather than extending hours.

The studio also confirmed it has taken a longer lease on its waterfront office in Halifax and added a second floor for the engineering and production teams. Headcount remains 23 and the studio has repeated that it does not intend to grow past 25.

Saltline soundtrack to receive a physical release through Northwater Editions

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA — Driftwood Signal has partnered with independent label Northwater Editions on a physical release of the soundtrack to Saltline, the studio’s 2021 coastal survival game.

The release collects the game’s full score across two discs, remastered from the original session material, along with four pieces written during development and never used. Sleeve notes by composer and studio audio lead Sofia Marchetti cover the field recordings made along the Nova Scotia shore that the score was built from.

Northwater Editions will handle manufacturing and distribution. The soundtrack remains available digitally on Steam, unchanged and at the same price.
