VANTAGE POINT
The studio

About

Founded 2016. Portland, Oregon. Thirty-eight people, most of whom came from somewhere other than games.

Origin

Vantage Point Games came out of a milsim mod scene. Ruth Halvorsen and Tomás Berger had been maintaining a large ballistics and squad-command mod for several years, mostly at night, and by 2015 it had a bug tracker, a release cadence, and a small group of people who treated it like a job. In 2016 they registered a company in Portland so those people could be paid.

We were self-funded until 2019, which meant contract work paid for the parts of Longshadow Company that the mod could not. The campaign shipped in November 2019 and did well enough that we stopped taking contracts. Ashfall Protocol followed in 2024 and is what most of the studio works on now.

We have grown slowly and on purpose. Thirty-eight people is roughly the size at which everyone still knows what everyone else is doing, and we would rather stay near it than not.

Team

  • Ruth Halvorsen Studio Director & co-founder

Ran the mod project the studio grew out of. Handles the business so the rest of the studio does not have to, and still reviews every ranked season plan.

  • Tomás Berger Creative Director & co-founder

Owns the tone and the terrain. Came from architectural visualisation and treats a map layout as a floor plan with consequences.

  • Priya Malhotra Lead Anti-Cheat Engineer

Joined in 2022 from platform security work. Runs detection, telemetry review, and the ban appeals process for the ranked ladder.

  • Daniel Okonkwo Engineering Director

Keeps the engine work honest and the build times short. Wrote most of the original ballistics solver and has been trying to hand it off ever since.

  • Ingrid Sandoval Art Director

Sets the studio’s flat, dusty look. Insists that if a piece of cover looks like cover, it must actually stop a round.

  • Marcus Reyes Live Operations Producer

Plans the season calendar for Ashfall Protocol and runs the weekly live review. Former logistics NCO; schedules accordingly.

  • Hana Petrov QA Lead

Built the studio’s regression suite and the network test rig. Reproduces the bug before anyone is allowed to argue about it.
