VANTAGE POINT
Open roles

Careers

Three roles open. Apply to careers@vantagepointgames.com with a CV and a short note about what you have shipped.

How we work

We are 38 people on one product team plus a small support group. Core hours are 10:00 to 16:00 Pacific; the rest is yours to arrange. Portland staff work hybrid, usually three days in the office at Southeast Water Avenue. We keep a hard no-crunch rule and move dates rather than break it — both of our titles shipped late for that reason.

Benefits: medical, dental, and vision covered for employee and dependants; 401(k) with a 4% match; 20 days holiday plus the week between Christmas and New Year; parental leave of 16 weeks at full pay; a hardware budget refreshed every three years. Salary bands are stated in the first conversation, not the last.

We read every application ourselves. Expect a reply within two weeks, including if the answer is no.

Vacancies

Three open positions

Senior Gameplay Engineer (Weapons)

Portland, OR — hybrid

Responsibilities

  • Own the weapon systems layer in Ashfall Protocol: ballistics, recoil, handling states, and attachment effects.
  • Work with design to turn reference data into tunable values, and keep those values authored in data rather than code.
  • Maintain and extend the weapon test harness so a handling change can be measured, not argued about.
  • Investigate hit-registration reports end to end, from client input through server reconciliation.
  • Review gameplay code from the wider team and mentor two mid-level engineers.

Requirements

  • Five or more years in gameplay engineering with at least one shipped title.
  • Strong C++ and practical Unreal Engine experience (UE4 or UE5), including replication.
  • Comfortable reasoning about client prediction, server authority, and the failure modes of both.
  • Able to read a technical reference on small arms and turn it into something playable.

Live Operations Producer

Portland, OR — hybrid

Responsibilities

  • Run the seasonal release calendar for Ashfall Protocol, from content lock through to post-launch hotfix windows.
  • Chair the weekly live review: telemetry, player reports, crash rates, and ranked health in one meeting.
  • Coordinate patch communications with community and support so notes go out with the build, not after it.
  • Track dependencies across design, engineering, art, and QA, and raise slippage early enough to act on.
  • Own the incident process for live outages and write the follow-up.

Requirements

  • Three or more years producing on a live-service PC or console title.
  • Experience running a recurring release train, including hotfix and rollback procedure.
  • Comfortable reading dashboards and asking the right question of the data rather than restating it.

Network Engineer — Matchmaking

Remote (US & Canada)

Responsibilities

  • Own the matchmaking service for Ashfall Protocol: queue construction, skill and latency weighting, and backfill.
  • Improve queue times in thin regions without widening skill spread past what the ranked ladder can absorb.
  • Instrument the match lifecycle so a bad match can be reconstructed after the fact.
  • Work with the anti-cheat team on the signals matchmaking contributes to ranked integrity.
  • Run capacity planning for season launches, which are the only days that matter.

Requirements

  • Four or more years on backend or networked services, ideally for a multiplayer title.
  • Strong Go, Rust, or C++ and comfort with distributed systems failure modes.
  • Experience with a matchmaking or ranking system in production, including its rating model.
  • Able to overlap at least four hours with Pacific time.
